While leopards are present in the region, please note that leopard sightings are less likely on this specific morning time slot compared to dedicated full-focus leopard safaris. Ideal for guests who enjoy mixed-interest wildlife, photography, bird-watching, families, couples, relaxing nature outings. The region around Jawai (Jawai Dam & surrounding valley) is known for its high-density leopard habitat, crocodiles along the river/dam, and a rich bird-life including resident and migratory species. The Jawai wetlands, river banks and granite hill environment support a wide variety of bird species (both resident and migratory). Here are some you may see: Painted Stork (majestic white body, pink-shaded wings), Indian Eagle Owl (on rock ledges or tree hollows), Bar-headed Goose (in winter months), Demoiselle Crane (migratory), Black Ibis, Grey Heron, Kingfishers, Local passerines: Bee-eaters, Drongos, Lapwings, etc. These sightings add a colourful dimension to your safari beyond the big-cat horizon. Important Note on Leopard Sightings While the area is one of the most famed leopard habitats in India, lunchtime or mid-morning sightings are naturally less frequent because the big cats tend to retreat into caves/hideouts after hunting in the early hours. Hence: please view this safari as a nature-rich experience with good chances of birds & crocodiles, and a possibility (but not guarantee) of a leopard.
